Head of Store Operations – Big Yellow Self Storage

Big Yellow Self Storage was founded in 1998, when they opened their first store in Richmond in 1999. Twenty five years later, they have grown to a network of 109 stores nationwide, including 24 Armadillo Self Storage stores within their portfolio. They have over 6.4 million sq ft of storage space with over 73,000 customers storing with them who are rating them at 4.7 on Trustpilot. Big Yellow is a constituent member of the FTSE 250 and are a values led organisation that really invests in their teams, in their recent employee engagement survey, they received an 88% engagement score.

We were briefed by the CEO and COO on a search for a Head of Store Operations who could inspire and develop the operations team with the objective of maximising the continued growth of revenue and profitability. As the clear market leader, they were not interested in anyone from their sector, so we assessed the transferable skills of candidates from other high touch, customer centric commercial environments, such as transport, automotive, travel and retail. Following an indepth interview process, Andrew Cunnington was appointed, he was previously Regional Operations Director and Director of Forecourts at Welcome Break.

We have also previously supported the CEO & Property Director with a search to appoint their Acquisition & Development Manager.
