Longleat is one of the UK’s finest Grade I listed stately homes and the seat of the Marquess of Bath. In 1966, Longleat Safari Park was opened as the first drive-through safari park outside of Africa and is now home to over 500 animals, including the only Southern Koalas in Europe. During our partnership with Longleat, we have supported them to appoint most of their senior leadership team, including the search to appoint the newly created role of Commercial Director. We were briefed by Ceawlin Thynn, 8th Marquess of Bath to identify an individual who was able to evolve and develop the entire commercial function of the estate, with specific focus on developing the retail, food & beverage and event business, whilst also masterminding a new accommodation offer from conception through to operation.
Our research identified high performing commercial operators across a range of sectors, which included, visitor attractions, sporting venues, travel operators, events and hospitality businesses. The shortlist of five candidates all had the expertise and cultural alignment needed, but because they came from a range of different backgrounds, it gave Longleat the opportunity to consider how transferable skills could really add value. The candidate who was appointed was previously the Hotel & Guest Experience Director at The LEGOLAND Windsor Resort, another iconic venue, so really understood the environment and how best to add both commercial value and exceptional guest experiences.
In addition to the Commercial Director role, we have also supported Longleat on searches to appoint:
- Director of Operations
- Director of Estates, Property and Maintenance
- Marketing Director
- General Manager - Cheddar Gorge and Caves
